More About this Test

Did you know that your dog could be sensitive to certain foods or environmental elements? These sensitivities or intolerances can lead to symptoms such as digestive issues, skin irritation, or chronic discomfort.

The Dog Intolerance Test examines your dog’s response to 143 common foods and 47 artificial allergens, helping identify which substances may be contributing to these problems. With this insight, you can make informed changes to your dog’s diet and environment to support better health and comfort.

Why is the Dog Intolerance Test Important?

Intolerance is a non-immunological adverse reaction to certain substances found in food or the environment. These reactions can sometimes show clear symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, digestive issues, or skin problems. However, in many cases, the symptoms are more subtle—your dog may experience discomfort, behavioural changes, or mood swings without any obvious cause.

It is crucial to identify the underlying triggers early, as prolonged exposure to intolerant substances can lead to more serious health concerns.

The Dog Intolerance Test helps you pinpoint the items your dog should avoid. In many cases, eliminating the trigger for a period of time can lead to noticeable improvements. You can then gradually reintroduce these items one by one. If symptoms return, it may suggest an allergy, which unlike intolerance, is typically a lifelong condition.

This test empowers you to make informed changes that support your dog’s health and comfort—starting with simply knowing what to avoid.

Collecting DNA Samples

DNA samples for the Dog Intolerance Test are collected using your dog’s fur. Once you place your order, we will send you a sample collection kit containing all the necessary materials and instructions.

To collect the sample, simply gather 4 to 5 loose strands of fur while brushing your dog. If your dog does not shed, you can carefully collect a few hairs manually.

Please make sure to follow the instructions in the kit for properly storing, labelling, and shipping the fur sample. You will also receive a small green collection tube. This tube can be used to send a sample of any item you suspect may be affecting your dog’s health—such as pollen, dust, food, treats, shampoo, or other environmental substances.

Do not send the fur in metallic packaging (such as foil). Instead, place it in a secure envelope or postage wallet and send it to the address provided. Proper handling ensures accurate results and helps uncover what might be triggering your pet’s sensitivities.

Dog Intolerance Test Results

Once the samples are received at the laboratory, 143 food items and 47 non-food items will be analyzed. You will receive the results by email within 5 working days.

The results report will include only those elements that show an intolerance level of 85 percent or higher. Any items below this threshold will not be listed in the report.

In addition to identifying the possible triggers, the report provides clear guidance on how to completely remove these elements from your dog’s diet and environment for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. This resting phase allows your dog’s body to recover from adverse reactions.

After this period, you can gradually reintroduce the elements one at a time, observing how your dog’s body responds. This process can help distinguish between temporary intolerances and lifelong allergies.

Please note that the Dog Intolerance Test does not evaluate reactions to medications or drugs, as it is based on a fur sample, not blood.

This test is recommended for adult dogs or those that are at least 6 months old.
