Dog Parentage Test

$210

Our Dog Parentage Test provides a definitive way to establish the true parentage of your dog. Whether you’re a breeder or a pet owner, this test offers a scientifically accurate method of confirming pedigree with up to 99.99% accuracy.

It’s a reliable and trusted solution for verifying lineage, supporting responsible breeding, and maintaining accurate records.

Why establish dog paternity with a DNA test?

A dog paternity test is performed by comparing the DNA profiles of the dam (mother) and sire (father) with that of the offspring. The test uses simple oral swabs and can be easily done at home—no veterinarian assistance is required.

With this test, you can:

  • Ensure you are purchasing a dog with a DNA-certified pedigree

  • Offer your clients the assurance of verified lineage

  • Eliminate any doubt about the possibility of multiple sires in a litter

It’s a valuable tool for breeders and buyers who want clarity, confidence, and credibility when it comes to pedigree verification.

Cost of our dog parentage test

The Dog Parentage Test is available for $210, which includes testing for one dam (mother), one sire (father), and one offspring.

You can also choose to test:

  • Multiple offspring at the same time

  • More than one potential sire in the same test

Please note that additional dogs will incur an extra cost.

Important:
We highly recommend including the mother’s DNA sample, as it significantly increases the accuracy of the results. By having the dam’s profile, we can clearly eliminate her share of genetic inheritance, making it easier to confirm the paternal match with greater precision.

How is the dog parentage test carried out?

Carrying out a dog parentage test is simple, quick, and completely stress-free for your dog. DNA samples are collected using oral swabs, which are gently rubbed on the inside of the mouth of each dog participating in the test.

Once you place your order, Forensics Canada will send you a Dog DNA sample collection kit containing everything you need. With this kit:

  • There is no need for blood samples

  • You avoid expensive veterinary fees

  • The process is painless and easy to do at home

After collecting the samples, simply send them back to the laboratory for analysis. Testing begins as soon as your samples are received.

Why test the mother?

Including the mother’s DNA sample in a dog parentage test significantly improves the accuracy of the results. Without the mother’s DNA, there is a higher risk that a sire may be falsely confirmed as the biological father.

By having the mother’s sample, the laboratory can exclude her genetic contribution from the offspring’s profile, making it much easier to match the remaining DNA to the correct sire.

If the mother is not available, the laboratory can still proceed with extended testing, but it may require additional analysis to confidently determine the correct parentage. Including all relevant samples from the start ensures the most reliable and conclusive results.

Your Results

Your Dog Parentage Test results will be sent to you by email within 10 working days from the time the laboratory receives your samples.

The report will clearly state whether the tested sire qualifies as the biological father of the offspring. This outcome is referred to as an “inclusion,” confirming paternity. If the tested sire does not qualify, he will be excluded as the biological father, meaning the DNA does not match that of the offspring.

The test uses a 16-DNA marker panel for routine parentage analysis, delivering highly accurate results. In cases where the dogs being tested are closely related (such as siblings or other close relatives), the laboratory may recommend extended testing for clearer resolution.

Results for the Dog Paternity DNA Test are typically available within ten working days and will be sent to you by email.
