Sibling DNA Test
$349
Are you really siblings? Do you share the same parents? Sibling DNA testing is designed for individuals who want to confirm whether they are full siblings, half siblings, or not biologically related. This test is ideal for situations where alleged brothers or sisters seek to verify their family connection when direct parental testing is not possible.
About sibling DNA testing
A full sibling DNA test is ideal when the individuals being tested are a male and female pair. This test determines the amount of shared DNA between the two participants. It works by providing a statistical probability of their biological relationship.
Unlike a paternity test, sibling testing does not require every genetic marker to match. Instead, it evaluates whether the individuals share one or both common parents—or have no genetic connection at all. The test calculates a siblingship index, which is used to assess the likelihood of the relationship.
A siblingship index of less than 1.00 indicates non-relatedness.
A siblingship index greater than 1.00 suggests the individuals may be full siblings or half siblings.
The cost for this sibling DNA test is $349.
Testing Between Same-Gender Individuals
For tests involving two males or two females, we recommend different types of sibling DNA tests. Please contact us for more information.
Mother’s Sample
To strengthen the test results, we highly recommend including a sample from a known mother.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you suspect a pre-existing relationship, such as believing your cousin may be your sibling, the laboratory cannot perform a standard sibling test. Please contact us so we can assist you in choosing the appropriate test for your situation.
Important Notes
Turnaround Time:
We can only guarantee the standard result turnaround time when the test is conducted using oral swab samples. If a discreet sample is used, please be aware that this may result in an extended turnaround time.Test Results:
Our DNA test results provide a statistical likelihood that supports the relationship being tested. Adding additional participants (such as a known parent’s sample) or opting for direct relationship testing may offer stronger evidence.Stronger Results:
For more reliable and conclusive results, we strongly recommend including the sample of a known parent.
In cases where siblings are male
If siblings are male and want to discover whether they share the same biological father, we suggest a type of sibling DNA test known as a Y chromosome test. This test is extremely accurate. If males tested wish to know whether they share the same father for example, a Y test would be ideal. If they have the same DNA profile, then they share the same paternal line. If two If females wish to establish whether they have a common paternal line they can ask a direct male blood relative to take a Y chromosome test on their behalf.
